Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Outreach Program

Purpose:

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Outreach Program – an extension of Science, Innovation and Technology – was launched during this past biennium as a collaborative effort among the Nevada Small Business Development Center, the University of Nevada Reno, the University of Nevada Las Vegas and CED. The SBIR Outreach initiative offers entering, emerging, and growing technology enterprises with support and promotes economic diversification by nurturing the commercialization of products and/or ideas. The support extends from information and planning guidance to infrastructure support, as well as one-on-one mentoring and technical assistance to all Nevada businesses interested in participating in the program.

Key Long-Term Objectives:

Promote statewide technology based economic diversification by providing small businesses a zero cost product development opportunity

Achieve within four years an annual rate of 30 SBIR contracts per year and double the number of companies participating in the SBIR program.

Accomplishments:

Briefed primary stakeholders including the Lt. Governor, UCCSN, Nevada’s development authorities, chambers of commerce, the Nevada Business Assistance Roundtable and the NTS Development Corporation regarding the benefits of the SBIR Outreach Initiative.

Conducted SBIR workshops for approximately 100 Nevada companies.
