Nevada Procurement Outreach Program Honored Nationally
SBA chooses Nevada program for Model of Excellence Award

The Nevada Procurement Outreach Program has been selected as a Vision 2000 Models of Excellence award winner by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The award will be presented during the annual Small Business Conference in Washington, D.C., December 1-2.

Award winners were chosen by judges from the private and public sectors from among hundreds of nominations.

"The Procurement Outreach Program is an excellent example of how the state can play an important role in helping to retain and expand Nevada’s small businesses," said Lt. Governor Lorraine Hunt, chairman of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development and herself a successful small businessperson. "This program supports businesses by providing assistance and counseling in an area of procurement that is technical in nature, but highly beneficial to those businesses who are chosen for contract awards."

The Procurement Outreach Program was established to promote economic diversification of the state by increasing the flow of federal and other government contracting dollars to Nevada. This is accomplished by providing firms with the access and tools necessary to find, bid on and win local, out-of-state and federal contracting opportunities not currently being awarded to Nevada companies.

During the past fiscal year alone, the Procurement Outreach Program has worked with more than 1,100 client companies, conducted 37 seminars and helped small businesses in Nevada receive 537 Department of Defense, federal, or state and local contract awards worth just under $43 million.

The Nevada Procurement Outreach Program is a division of the Nevada Commission on Economic Development (NCED) and is a partnership between NCED and the Defense Logistics Agency. The procurement program has offices and staff in Carson City and Las Vegas and serves small businesses statewide.
