Procurement Outreach

  • Government contracts worth billions of dollars are reserved for small, minority and women-owned businesses each year. Nevada's Procurement Outreach Program (POP) works to help Nevada businesses find, bid on and win those government contracts.

  • Often businesses are reluctant to try to sell their products or services to federal, state and local governments because they feel the process is too complicated and intimidating. The Procurement Outreach Program helps Nevada businesses cut through the red tape and simplify the process.

  • Experts provide training and technical assistance and one-on-one counseling along with regular training seminars. Resource centers in northern and southern Nevada provide extensive reference materials designed to help Nevada businesses succeed. Experts monitor local, state and federal databases daily to identify possible contract opportunities for Nevada businesses.

Government contracting is good for Nevada's economy. For the 2005 and 2006 fiscal years, based upon 15 percent of the Nevada POP clients reporting, 1150 contract awards totaling $351 million were made to Nevada businesses. This created 6,977 jobs for Nevadans at above average wages.

Testimonials From Procurement Outreach Program Participants

Herbert Morghen of Azure Blue, Inc. a Sparks-based company, says POP helped him land a Department of Defense contract for his patented cannon and artillery cleaning kits. "There are a lot of things you have to do with government contracts that you don't need to do in the civilian world," Morghen explains.

He says POP helped him get registered with the proper agencies "because you automatically don't get a contract if you don't register." He says POP was also instrumental in helping him get a Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code that is unique to his company along with a persona identification number. Morghen says POP helped his company with electronic invoicing and they helped him get the passwords he needed for the bidding process.

Craig Hartman of Nevada Eclipse, a window tinting business in Carson City, got help from POP to land a contract with the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. "I'm a rookie at this and they basically held my hand," Hartman explains. "They helped me through a jungle of computer stuff."
