Lt. Governor Lorraine
T. Hunt, Chair
As I took my oath of office, I envisioned
the future and saw exciting opportunities for our state. My
duties as Lieutenant Governor include serving as chairman
of both the Nevada Commission on Tourism and the Nevada Commission
on Economic Development, which includes the Nevada Film Office,
as well as serving as vice-chair of the state Board of Transportation
and presiding over the senate as the President while the Nevada
Legislature is in session.

Dick Bostdorff
The President of the TechAlliance@NewNevada
and Chairman of the Economic Development Authority of Western
Nevada. He also provides Corporate Coaching to several companies
through Gazelles.com and
his own company, Starwood Group LLC.
Dick retired as the COO of Nevada Bell, (a subsidiary of SBC
Communications Inc.) in July 2000, after 3 years in that position.
Prior to the Nevada Bell assignment, he was the lead executive
in the merger and integration of Pacific Bell and SBC Communications.
From 1994-1996 he was VP-Re-engineering for Pacific Bell, leading
a $1 Billion restructure of the entire firm, focusing on operational
efficiency, improved marketing and cash flow improvement. During
his 34 year career in the telecommunications industry, Dick
held several positions in Pacific Bell, including VP/GM of the
Silicon Valley Region from 1987 through 1994, and led divisions
that operated the backbone network and provided network engineering
and technical support.
Dick also serves on the Board of SageRidge School, the Advisory
Board to the UNR College of Business and Engineering, Board
of Directors of Colonial Bank, WIN Board of Trustees, and is
Campaign Chairman for the United Way of Northern Nevada. Dick
is a graduate of Cal Poly, SLO with a B.S. in Business Management.
He completed graduate work at Pepperdine University and is a
graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management
program. He and his wife Nancy, live in Reno.

Otto Merida
Born in Havana, Cuba, Mr. Merida attended elementary and part
of his high school at Edison Institute in Havana, Cuba.
He came to this country as a political refugee from Cuba in
1961, under the auspices of a program called Peter Pan, which
brought over 14,000 children, from communist Cuba to the United
States in the early 60s . Through this program, Mr. Merida
was sent to Wilmington, Delaware where he graduated from Salesianum
High School, a private Catholic School. After working in New
York City for two years, Mr. Merida attended college under the
auspices of the so called Cuban loan, a program designed for
Cuban political refugees, graduating with an Associate in Arts
Degree from North Florida Junior College, in Madison, Florida
1967, and a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from the University
of Florida in Gainesville, Florida in 1969.
After graduation, he joined Volunteer for Service to America
and worked as a community organizer and social worker in the
Fitchburg and Leominster area under the auspices of the Mantachusets
Opportunity Council in Lemonister, Massachusetts. After leaving
VISTA, he worked for a year for the Fitchburg Chamber of Commerce,
as the Manpower Manager.
Mr. Merida came to Las Vegas in 1974 and worked for the State
of Nevada Education Department and the Comprehensive Employment
and Training Program. From 1976-78, he helped organize the Latin
Chamber of Commerce. In 1978, he became the Executive Director
of the Latin Chamber of Commerce and has been its executive
director since its inception. At the present time, the chamber
has over 960 members.
Mr. Merida is a former chairman and past member of the Las Vegas
Housing Authority and past board member of the State of Nevada
Public Works Board, and the Nevada Judicial Commission.
Mr. Merida has been married to Maria Merida for 25 years. |
